Document Collaboration using Spaces

Description

This service is where one or several users can add, modify or delete content online, via a web browser, using a simplified markup languages or a rich-text editor. It can be used for a variety of purposes, from a single-author web page to a multisectional collaborative website.

York University's service for this is at  http://spaces.yorku.ca. This uses a commercial package called Confluence (view its online documentation).

Spaces itself consists of a collection of spaces. A space is an area within the service, containing your pages. You can think of each space as a sub-site, or mini-site, each with its own home page.

This service is available to York faculty members, research projects, administrative and academic units.

If you already have access to Spaces then you can login to it at http://spaces.yorku.ca.

How do I get it?

  • Request a space by making a Service Request. Spaces are organized by sponsoring unit, so you should supply your unit name and the name you want for the space and who should initially have access to it. Once you've created a space you can give access to anyone at York with their Passport York username and password.
  • You will be contacted with basic information about how to setup your space.
