Finding the Web Address of an Image

YQuiz Writer allows you to include images with question and section text, but to do so you must enter the full web address (or URL) of the image.

We suggest that you use images that are stored in your own central web account, in case the original is changed before some of your students take the quiz. For images stored in your own account, the web address may look like this.

http://www.yorku.ca/yourusername/images/yourfile.jpg

Everything following your username represents the path to the image file within your web site folder.

Finding an address using a web browser

If the image is already displayed on one of the web pages in your site, you can find the correct address using your web browser.

Internet Explorer

  1. Open a new browser window and go to a web page where the image you want to use is displayed.
  2. Right-click (Mac users Ctrl+Click) to see a menu.
  3. Select Copy Image Location. This will put the web address of the image on the clipboard, so that you can paste it into another application.
  4. Test that you have the right image: Click in the location/address field of the web browser, and choose Edit menu > Paste, then press the Return key. You should see the image you want as the only item on the page.
  5. Return to YQuiz Writer and click in the area where you need the address of the image. Choose Edit menu > Paste to insert the address.
  6. Be sure to preview your quiz!
